The maths angle has bugger-all to do with the matriarchy/patriarchy stuff (is this NA/EDA crap?), I'm just basing it on Terrance Dicks and Barry Letts saying the Doctor's real name is a mathematical formula. And for a people who deal with time and space, mathematical language would be apt. Even though I hate mathematics myself, for obvious reasons.
