I don't really "Do" Christmas, either (I was raised very vaguely Christian: Quaker, turned Neo-Pagan/Wiccan sometime in my late teens, and turned from Neo-Paganism to atheism almost 14 years ago[?]). But I do believe in ritual and custom for the sake of people-to-people connections. And picking a generally-agreed upon time to do that helps. It certainly helps me, personally, keep track of time passing, and delineate different eras of my life.
Besides, 2018 has lasted far too long, and will probably take a concerted effort of a whole bunch of folks to kick it to the curb...
