Pizza Vera, my favorite, local, independently-owned, pizza place, is back in business!
Pizza Vera version #2, is now owned by a former employee.
The new owner was, back in the day, my favorite of all the delivery people (if I was the last delivery on her route, that night, she would pause for a few minutes of chat before she left, and she has a sense of humor).
I know all this because she stopped by the house to deliver the new menu, with the new phone number, in person, and she actually waited until I answered the door, rather than just sticking the menu on the doorknob.
She also told me that of their old customers, they only accepted personal checks from three people, and I'm one of them (grins a broad ego-boo smile)
Well, it did. Since she's starting over in a tough economy, she's trimmed the menu down considerably, and many of the more esoteric specialty pizzas are not there any more.
But she still offers Eggplant Rollatini, on the pasta segment of the menu, where the slices of eggplant are rolled around a filling of ricotta cheese, and covered in marinara sauce.
The dessert menu retains its full compliment, however, and still has the fresh-baked Chocolate Chip Cookies.
It is. Pizza and chocolate chip cookies may seem like trivial business to some.
But not only is Pizza Vera a good business, with a history of ethical practices (They've always been closed on Sunday, on the principle that every emplyee needs some time off, even delivery workers), but their menu was one of the first slipped under the door when I first moved in down here. So yeah.
And the woman who bought the place totally deserves to succeed. :-)
