So, one of my favorite radio programs on the weekends is "The Splendid Table." It's sort of an audio food magazine, but instead of focusing on the recipes, it focuses on the culture around our food, around the world.

Anyway, yesterday, I heard an interview with a philosopher about Epicurus. And I've come to the conclusion that I've been epicurian all my life, and never knew it. ^_^

You can hear the interview by clicking here (it's about 5 1/2 minutes). But if you don't have (or just don't want to open) RealPlayer, the gist of his philosophy is this:

Whether the gods exist are not is really irrelevent. Either way, it's up to us to make this a nice world to live in, by making friendships between people. Sitting down to a gourmet dinner is good, but it's more important whom you invite to the table; sitting down to bread and water with a joyful troll (my terminology), is better than sitting down to pressed duck and champagne with a nasty troll (again, mine). Epicurians mantained beautiful gardens for people to come and go, so they could meet up with others and talk about philosophy and share ideas...

So yeah... I think that fits with the idea of "pro-fun threads" on the 'Nets, if I say so, myself...
