It would be many months before Army investigators learned a final horrific detail: Most of the interrogators had believed Mr. Dilawar was an innocent man who simply drove his taxi past the American base at the wrong time..

[Edit: Here's a report on the New York Times report from the British newspaper, The Independant that you don't need to register to read: http://news.independent.co.uk/world/asia/story.jsp?story=640070 (Gotten from [livejournal.com profile] popesnarky)]

Read it. Pass it on. The only way a festering wound can heal is if it's opened up and cleaned out, no matter how painful that process may be..

Crud, I didn't realise it needed registration. I guess that means I don't remember having registered, because I could read just by clicking.

Well, I registered a while back, to read another NYT piece. So I didn't have to register either to see it this time... I don't know. They may have changed their policy, in the meantime... Which is why I put the "If/Then" statement in there...

Yup.

You need to register.

What's the summary? I don't keep up on "news" anyway. Not like a homeless person can do anything about the situation of the world when she doesn't even know if there'll be a roof in her own future.

Like I said in my original post, there probably isn't anything anyone can do except tell the world. Anyone with an LJ can do that. Before you go assuming that you're helpless, find out.

Try this link, because it worked for me when the one posted above didn't. It's a multipage article, not a CNN-style short attention span soundbite.

Brenda -- looks like the same URL to me...

I will google for the same story... maybe I'll find news of the same report from another source.

Just copy/paste the text into a journal entry?

I was thinking that... but then that runs afoul of copyright... If I have to, I will. But it is part of public record, now, and if it's a legit story, it's likely to be published elsewhere...
