As some of you may know, back on June 3rd, my life took an unexpected turn (I'm actually still turning, I'm confident that it is a turn for the better, but only fate and time will tell).

For on that day, the editor of the Art Garden (a small "literary magazine for the stage" that I've been writing for for nearly every year since 1989), asked me to write a story for her on commission, based on images that came to mind during a shamanic journey she took at a workshop. The full post on that news can be found here: ...Wow... (the mind boggles)

Well, I've been ruminating on that story she since I got back from the last Art Garden a month, it, and the responsibility that goes with it, has been weighing on the back of my mind since then. And it occurred to me that one reason I haven't been enjoying the quadrille round-robin is that I've had the niggling thought that I have something more important to write instead.

So today, I sat down and finished the first rough draft!! Yay!! I can do it -- I really can (no matter how many stories I've done in the past, I always worry that there might never be another one until it is actually outside of my head from beginning to end).

Now, all I have to do is get it into a more polished form. I'm contemplating putting in blank verse, like I did my last one in, but the story also lends itself to the ballad form -- like those heroic songs from the 17th century with 67 verses ;-).

I'll sleep on that decision for now... but yay! I know how the story goes from beginning to end!

The first, and very, rough draft of my story (working title):

Golden Star Boy )

Note: this is based on a vision the woman who hired me had during a shamanic healing, of a girl and an eagle "opening the path for the Divine Child" (her words). There are some gruesome bits, but harsh bodily sacrifice is often demanded on shamanic journeys.
