Testin' and stretchin' my E.Q. ...
Aug. 7th, 2003 03:43 pm("EQ", btw, stands for Emotional Intelligence Quotient -- how smart you are at understanding your own emotions and those of others. There are some who say it's more important to success than IQ)
Been spending the last couple of days working on creating a Live Journal mood icon theme, primarily for use in the
pro_fun community, and for my own use.
Interesting excercise -- how do you illustrate an emotion in an image that is (in my case) about 50 pixels square? It gets even more interesting as you move further inside LJ's mood hierarchies, illustrated here: Live Journal's Mood List. Is being "lonely" different enough from being "sad" to warrant its own icon? What about the difference between "Frustrated" and "Angry", or "Nostalgic" and "Thoughtful"? And if so, how do you show these differences with only a few pixels of color? It's certainly got me thinking (or should that be "feeling"? ;-))
I have decided, though, that I disagree with much of the hierarchy's arrangement. IMNSHO, "Rushed" belongs under "Working" instead of "Anger", for example, and "Stressed" belongs under "Scared." And "Quixotic" belongs under "Hopeful," not "Silly" -- the word comes "Don Quixote," who set out with his one sidekick to rid the world of evil -- "... To dream the impossible dream..." The cynics of the world may call that silly -- I call it admirable :-P (then again, it's my dream to make pro-fun trolls as recognizable a force on the 'Net as nasty trolls, and to earn our own entry in the Jargon file, so...) ;-)
hmmm... I had thought that I had done all the moods I wanted to except for the "Working" group... but looking over the mood list, I see a couple of more distinctions (icons) I'd like to make.... Back to work (play?)!
