And there's a list of questions to help your SS (who may not know you in person) get you a gift that you will actually like. I thought it might be interesting, in an El-Jay Meme sort of way, to post the answers I gave this year. Feel free to copy and post to your El-Jay (with your own answers, of course), so if anyone gets the urge to Give You Something or Other, they'll not give you a lemon (unless you like lemons, natch)
1. what is your age range?
By the calender: Early 40's; By my tastes: Early Teens ;-)
2. gender?
Female
3. Do you have a favorite color?
I prefer earth and jewel tones to pastels or neon colors
4. favorite authors/ type of book?
Fantasy (but not the bodice-ripping sword and sorcery stuff), Myth and folklore, and retellings of same. Mysteries such as Sayers, Christie, Tony Hillerman and Dick Francis have written.
5. what books have you really been wanting?
I have backlist of books I've yet to read... don't really need any more right now.
6. what type of music do you like?
Besides Folk (that's a given, right?) [this is from a folk music forum] 17th-19th Century Classical (Bach and Mozart, Vivaldi, but not Liszt). If my SS does the make-music thing, of course I'd like to hear that...
7. what cds have you really been wanting?
Same as books above.
8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wnting?
N/A. Don't have a working VHS or DVD player. But for the sake of getting to know my tastes: movies I've wanted to see, but never got the chance include: Shrek 2, Seabiscuit and Being John Malkovich.
9. what is your t-shirt size?
Large/extra-large -- prefer shirts with long sleeves.
10. do you collect anything? if so, what?
I collect stories. Tales to tell to myself and others. The more ripping the yarn, the better, whether truth, fiction, or somewhere in between. Stories from my Mystery Santa's region of the universe will be treasured.
11. what are some of your other hobbies?
I like make wearable art, and homemade greeting cards, and the like...
12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?
Generally don't wear jewelry, but when I do, I think silver looks better on me.
13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like.
I am an unrepentant chocoholic. I don't use candles or anything else with an open flame. I am a Polytheist Neo-Pagan, and a Born-Again Spiritual Agnostic. I live alone except for the company of two mostly-black cats. I have extra soft spots in my heart for spiders, horses, dandelions, toads and frogs, and rabbits. I talk to trees. I love to laugh. Some would say I watch too much TV... sometimes, I think gravity is my nemesis. I think that just about covers it.
