Wool Horse Blankets Left by Ancient Astronauts

The archeologists were baffled by what appeaered to be large, seven-fingered, wool gloves that were found in a niche at the back of the burial mound. These gloves were quite elaborate: embroidered with complex geometric designs and decorated with tiny bronze bells along the seams of the fingers.

Generations later, it was revealed through old diaries and letters, that several of those on the archeological team wanted to suppress this finding, as they were convinced it was a hoax, and that, if it were discovered, the integrity of the entire site would be thrown into question, ruining their collective reputations and accademic careers.

It was a terrific irony, therefore, when the rogue of the team, Doctor Erasmus Spittletoothe, launched himself into international fame and fortune when he published The Forgotten World of the Limping Spider Gods. This 17-volume work was lacking in rigorous scholarly discipline and heavy with exclamation points (Page 7,892 has gone into the record books, with a total of 435). But his discription of the "Lost Civilization," based solely on the evidence of these gloves, created such a stir in the popular culture of the time, that he was, by public pressure alone, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize a few years later.

The absolutely fantabulous irony is, of course, that the truth would have made even Dr. Spittletoothe scoff. For the "woolen gloves" were, in fact, the ceremonial parade blankets made for the seven-legged steeds of the Yarmothian diplomats of G'har-Dr'yan. They were being teleported across the Epsilon Sector, when a freak storm of dark matter caused them to be deposited, instead, in the burial mound of a rather unremarkable warlord on Earth.

Therefore, the Yarmothian diplomats had to ride in the parade on naked mounts, and the shame and scandel that ensued eventually errupted into the Dr'yan Debacle of Gamma Nine.
