capri0mni: Pencil sketch of a thought balloon in three-d, with the word "sigh" (Sigh)
My cousin Toni has been pressing on me how important it is to see my dad (and I agree -- but it's just not easy to pick up and go), so we're leaving Thursday Morning around 7:30 am (I have to be up, dressed, packed and breakfasted by then -- may not go to bed at all Wednesday night; might not be worth it) and staying until Sunday, maybe.

I've been stressing about this, and the election (Virginians passed a constitutional ban on gay marriage -- even though there's already a law on it-- and that same ammendment refuses any legal rights to any couple, hetero- or homo- that are unmarried. Isn't this a wonderful commonwealth? *headdesk*). So I haven't written a single word today. And I probably won't get a chance to much tomorrow, and none until I get settled back in on Monday.

*sigh* If I'm going to stay up all night tomorrow, I should probably go to bed now, huh?

Nearly every pundit I've heard talking through the magic picture box has been saying that this mid-term election has been a referendum on Bush-- folks are angry at Bush, so they vote against him indirectly by voting his party out of power.

Yet, this morning, when I was looking at an online poll asking: "Why did you vote?". I could not bring myself to click the Against Bush answer, because it's more than that.

Yes, I'm angry at Bush. Yes, I think he may very well be Satan's lackey here on Earth. But my vote was more than misplaced anger. According to our Constitution, it's the #1 Job of the Legislative Branch to put a lid on any president's mad grab for power but this House and Senate has rolled over and played puppy dog for President Bush ever since 9/11. So when I cast my vote for the newcomers, rather than the incumbants, I did so with the hope that they would actually do their job.

Oh, and also, on a more amusing note:

In the final days of the Senatorial in Virginia (The one that is probably going into a recount, and may tip the balance in the Senate, too), the Allen (R) campaign was running ads saying we can't trust Jim Webb because he's a "Fiction Writer" and has written "Sexually explicit scenes" in his past novels that were "Demeaning to women."

And I was like: "Really? Jim Webb has written Pr0n? Cool! Is it well written?"

And frankly, I what I find truly demeaning is that the Allen camp would: a) automatically think all women hate porn, and b) that even if all women did hate porn, that would be the issue that would trump the mess in Iraq, the minimum wage, and healthcare costs.

But that's just me.

(oh, and the way the system works, here in Virginia, we won't know the results of the Webb/Allen recount until December, at the earliest. Keep your fingers crossed!)
