Okay, the good news: Irene found her absolute favorite piece of mine that she wants me to read at the Art Garden's 20th anniversary -- about watching a spider building a web on my hand. And she was absolutely smashing and typed it out for me again, and emailed me the file, so I could relearn it in time (I wrote it just about 19 years ago? Maybe? I could check ImDb, and see when the film "arachnophobia" came out -- it was that summer)
Bad news: I suddenly realize how soon that is, and that I haven't booked my hotel room, yet.... And it's for Thanksgiving Weekend...
So today, instead of working on my NaNo, I've been trying to book a room for Fri-Sat nights the 23-24th (check out the 25th) So good -- I've got a room for two, with two beds, for those nights. BUT (this is the stupid part): While you can request a wheelchair accessible room, they can't guarruntee it until you arrive, and ask to check in.
Excuse me, but WTF? They can guarruntee Internet Access and HBO, but a door you can get through and a toilet you can use is a roll of the dice? I understand that a wheelchair accessible room is a rare request, but for those people who do need it, it's the first thing they need to know about, not an afterthought. (Oh, and Hotels.Com doesn't even list wheelchair access as an option you can ask for, so more WTF-age).
Been waffling about this all day, whether I should book the room and risk not being able to use it when I get there, or wait until I can talk to Audrey... I decided to go ahead. If it turns out not to be barrier-free, then, well, fuck. But it can't be any worse than trying to stay with cousins, at their non-barrier-free homes, for the holidays, and I've done that before, so...
But still.... GRRRR!
