I started with a scribble in pencil done with my eyes closed; I then highligted selected line segments with black crayon to "bring out" the face. Color was added on the computer with PictureIt Express's airbrush tool.

(and when I scanned, I chose the "B/W photo" option, since the color on my scanner seems borked... and 400 dpi seems the one resolution where those horizontal lines don't show up... hmmm...)
