Eye *heart* Euglenae!

Really, I do. I have ever since I was in high school, and first saw one through a microscope. They are beings that bridge the dichotomy between plant and animal.

They are green, make food through photosynthesis, like plants. They move, and have an organelle to perceive light, like animals. They also, sometimes, gobble stuff like animals.

When in large groups, they make pond scum.

They confound scientists.

They are wonderful, and mysterious, and great.

I love crinoids, which are animals that look like plants (and are not to be mistaken for Krynoids, which are plants that look like animals), and have beautiful nicknames such as sea lilies and featherstars, and have been leaving awesome fossils lying around for millions of years.

It probably says something that, before moving on to the explanation, I spent a few seconds trying to remember who Euglenae is and whether I'd ever read her LJ... :)

LOL!

And by the same token, I wonder if you would have had the same response if I had written: "I love euglenae" (or "euglena" -- I'm wondering, now, if it's a feminine or neuter noun): no capitals, and no cute LJ-speak.
