Because I was jealous of the people who could decorate their pages with whatever pictures and words they wanted.

I'm still not sure I've got the right color combo, or whether it's eye-hurty or not... may have to live with it for a while.

Anyway, my background wallpaper picture is now a musical score of a real song, and it's one of my favorites, because it is one of the most pro-fun troll songs ever written, and I'm not the one who wrote it! No one's sure where the song came from originally, but versions of it started to appear in print about 200 years ago, and I just want to share the words with you (if I could, I'd sing them to you in person, but since I can't, you'll just have to imagine me singing.

(This isn't the only version out there, but these verses seem most appropriate to Internets living):

Let every good (person)* now join in our song,
Vive La Compagnie!
Success to each other, and pass it along.
Vive La Compagnie!

Chorus:
Vive la, vive la, vive l'amour
Vive la, vive la, vive l'amour,
vive l'amour, vive l'amour,
Vive La Compagnie!

A friend to your left, and a friend to your right,
Vive La Compagnie!
In love and good fellowship, let us unite!
Vive La Compagnie!

(Chorus)

Now, wider and wider, our circle expands.
Vive La Compagnie!
We'll sing to our comrades in far-away lands!
Vive La Compagnie!

With friends all around us, we'll sing out our song
Vive la compagnie!
We'll banish our troubles, it won't take us long
Vive la compagnie!

(Chorus)

Should time or occassion, compel us to part
Vive la compagnie!
These days shall forever, enliven our heart
Vive la compagnie!

(Chorus)

~wipes away a wee tear. You guys know how much I love you, right?~

*The original word was "fellow" but "person" works better, in context.

Thank you. I deliberately matched the colors in the background image with the jester's costume in my icon. And as luck would have it, the song is in the same key as his score (but not the time signature).

The colors in this theme are close but not exact. That made me kind of worry about clashing.

(and I need to update my links and headers for same)

I like the journal theme, and the background. :-)

Thanks! The strips in the background picture came together almost as well as if I'd planned to tile it... ;-)

Oh, poo! I'm on such slow dialup, I thought that if it worked for me, it would work for anybody..;

Oh well. Glad you like the song. :-)

I tried it again and it loaded the second time. The background goes well with your new default icon.

It actually took me a few times to see it for myself. I blame the cookies; the computer couldn't deal with a new webpage at an existing address...

Some of lj's old page styles, especially the ones designed to have background pictures, never finish loading for me (and some of the new ones are too wide for my screen, don't adjust to the window size like the old styles do, and don't have sideways scroll bars in my browser) so I use ?style=mine a lot.

Cool background! And you know, ultimately, it only matters if YOU like it. You'll see it more than everyone else, after all! :)

while it's true that I'll see it more than anyone else, with this style, people will see it whenever they click to read comments or reply.

..And at that moment, I'd rather not induce headaches, you know? Not exactly condusive to jovial conversation... l-)
