I tended to give him homemade cards with a Valentine theme...
And in writing the words on the inside, I invariably left out the 'r,' until sometime in my twenties, wishing him, instead, a:
Happy
Bithday!
(I think, perhaps, Spethan the Typo Gremlin was an imaginary friend of mine long before I ever met Eloise...)
