  1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.

  2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.

  3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.

  4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

  • This is Dadabhai Naoroji, who was a British MP in the late-19th Century. He also fought for universal women's rights. One of my f'listers, [livejournal.com profile] spiralsheep, makes regular posts of historical photographs, often with included history lessons. I got the picture, and the inspiration, for this here.

  • This was made from a stock image of Shakespeare that was used to decorate one of those online Shakespeare quote memes. It is so unlike the one "authentic" illustration of Shakespeare that we have in print (his portrait from the frontispiece of the First Folio), that I suspect someone made an imagined drawing of a younger (or at least curlier-headed) Mr. Shakespeare, and stuck it on another stock image of an heroicly-posed torso, hence, the caption.

  • This is my first-ever screen-capped icon. The image is from Episode 7 of the Second Doctor serial "The Invasion." The Brigadier has just told Zoe not to worry her pretty little head, and have a nice cup of tea. This is the look she gives as he walks away (she later saves Earth with her leet math skills).

  • This is adapted from a piece I did for last year's [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo; it's the first observational drawing I attempted using MSPaint. It's also one of my first stuffed animals from childhood -- a Christmas present from the year I was two (my mother was never one to give me girly toys like plush bunnies or teddy bears in tutus).

  • This is Paul McCann hugging a fan-built model of a Dalek as a photo-op at the 2004 Doctor Who con "Gallifrey One." I wasn't there when the photo was snapped (this particular one was taken by [livejournal.com profile] trinalin), but I was there at the convention; the caption is taken from a 1990's British commerical for Kit-Kat Candy Bars (part of that ad involves Daleks wandering a shopping mall demanding: "GIVE US A CUD-DLE!")

You make me want to watch "The Invasion". Does it still exist?

Yes, it does. [livejournal.com profile] gordon_r_d gave it to me for Christmas. Episodes 1 & 4 were burned by the BBC, but have been recreated as computer animation by the Loose Canon folks. It is very shiny, and the DVD commentry track provides some of the best bits.
