The happiness meme says that you should post one thing that made you happy for that day, for eight straight days in a row.
There's no explaination for why it's eight, and not another number, in the meme itself, but eight is considered lucky in Buddhism, so that may be it.
Anyway, I've decided that I'd take the basic concept and combine it with Indo-European sympathetic magic theory and close out this year by posting a
12 happy days countdown to the New Year
Or, one happy thing for each month of the incoming year, in hopes that the whole year will be touched with a bit of happiness (or I'll get into the happiness habit, and my awareness of happiness will last the whole year)
So, here we go: 12 days until 2009:
Today (December 19) This American Life (radio show): 20 stories in 60 minutes. You can listen to the whole episode online (if you have broadband). The specific story that made the happiest was a story about The Penguin [the "Batman" villain] and Mary Poppins. They didn't put links up to the individual segments, but it was about halfway through the hour. It just made me smile. If you have time to listen to it, I recommend that you do.
