It got me thinking about what I like in my letters, and what's more readable and what's not, and what's graceful, and what's not. And I got to jonesing for new font sets.

Some of the font names in my loaded into my computer have the old double-"T" logo, which I know stands for TrueType[tm]. But most of the font names now have an "O" logo in front of them. Like this:

I remember that it stands for "Open... something," but I'm drawing a blank on the second half.

Do any of you guys know the name of that system? It would certainly help in my searching of the 'Nets.

Open Type. It's a recent font format that was jointly developed by Adobe and Microsoft. It resembles TrueType but can contain both TrueType and PostScript Type 1 font data. Unless you're a publisher, it really doesn't mean much to the lay person, IMO.

Thanks. Now, I'll know to look for PostScript in my font searches, too.
