So, last night -- this morning, the notion popped into my head that one of the songs from the old Sesame Street would be perfect for a Doctor Who music vid.

But this would not be for a montage of how much the Doctor Wubs his companions, or how much the companions Wub him, and how betrayed and full of longing they feel when he kicks them out of the TARDIS. No, this would be for a montage of all the companions Having had Enough, and leaving on their own: "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon," By Jeff Moss (1978), originally sung by Ernie (Jim Henson).

So I went trawling for good quality embeds to share. And I came across many video replies from people who were inspired to sing their own covers of the song; I guess it really strikes a chord. Of all of the do-it-yourself covers I've seen so far, this young man impressed me the most (remember what I said about my love for young men and accoustic guitars)? So I'm posting him instead of an uploaded puppet:

New School Electric Company:

I'm a cranky curmudgeon when it comes to Sesame Street and Doctor Who. But I think the new version of The Electric Company, can, in fact, hold a candle to the old version -- several, in fact.

The primetime television environment around the old Electric Company was dominated by shows like The Carol Burnett Show, Flip Wilson, and Sonny and Cher. And the old show echoed that culture, with its punchline-driven skits, all performed on a stage set that was a direct descendent of Vaudeville.

The media environment around today is dominated by shows like Lost and Heroes and Flash Foward. And that's what today's Electric Company reflects. Each half-hour show is plot-driven, and is filmed against the real-world backdrop of city streets. It has a full-cast of characters that act out comedy-dramas. It centers on eight adolescents (and their families). Four of the kids are members of "The Electric Company" -- the good guys, and four kids are members of "The Pranksters." The skits and songs fit into psuedo-commercial breaks that interupt the unfolding drama.

As usual, the villians are the most compelling. And one young actor -- Will Harper (who plays Danny Rebus) -- is someone I believe can go far, if he chooses to continue acting beyond his TEC run. Whenever he's on camera, the energy just crackles around him. I did some Googling, last night, and it seems that this show is his first national-exposure acting gig. Only one other actor named "Will Harper" popped up in searches, and his most recent roles were playing someone's father... I doubt they're the same person.

Here's a short clip of him, in one of those "psuedo-commercial" spots:

Keep an eye out for him...
