Well, once the ground gets frozen hard enough for snow to stick once, it takes a lot of warmth for it to thaw enough to melt it on landing. Dad's analogy for this was: Remember how long it takes for an ice cube to melt in the refrigerator, as opposed to room temperature.

(The refridgerator has the air temperature of an early spring day).

Meanwhile, our air temp has been at room temperature for weeks, now, and the ground has not frozen at all, yet. So, like my aide says: I'll believe it when I see it. (oh, and my timing was 12 hours off, when I made this post; the math part of my brain goes to bed long before the talking part of my brain).
