As some of you know, I'm participating in a secret santa thing (Buy and send someone a prezzie anonymously, while someone else entirely is doing the same for you... with a price limit of $20 [10 pounds?])...

Now, I know almost nothing about my Santee, except what he's posted about himself, and while he is a nice guy, I don't share many of his interests or knowledge in his interests... I know he's a history buff, and he asked for items of local interests to his santa's area, so I bought him a book of local ghost stories, seeing as he is a history buff, I thought he might find that fun...

But last year, santas tended to put lots of little things into their packages... kind of like assembling a christmas stocking. But it is really hard for me to do that, as I can't drive to look in lots of different shops, nor can I even go for a walk along a beach or forest to collect pretty shells or rocks and the like...

So I'm considering writing something for him, but as I have almost no knowledge of the genre he likes to read (space opera novels by particular authors I've never heard of), I worry that such a gift would come off as "forced" or "off"... His posts show a consistantly goofy sense of humor, but his sense of humor doesn't mesh with mine, and I fear that if I try to write something humorous, it will come across as me making fun of him.

And time is of the essence -- because Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat.

So, do I try to add something more to the book, and make a package, as seems to be the custom, and risk taking morre time that I am running out of, and perhaps giving something that isn't really wanted?

Or do I just send the book and perhaps a letter, and risk coming across as impersonal and dismissive?

At least the real Santa has better information to work with... :::Sigh:::
