I wanted to draw a monster with a bird-like beak, facing the viewer. But I couldn't get a handle on what a beak looks like, head-on. So I did an image search, and found this.

Clearly, the caption for this is: "Whut?"

And yes, btw, I think I've got the idea for how to draw a cartoon beak head-on.

I really had no mental image for what a beak would look like at that angle. And there are a lot of shapes of beaks.

Indeed. I draw lots of monsters with birdy heads, but nearly always in profile.

That's why it helped to do an image search of "Bird front view," 'cause it pulled up a full page of all sorts of birds, all more-or-less straight on, side by side. So I could compare and generalize.

I *still* can't figure out how the heck to draw beaks head-on. They always look like weird noses when I try to draw them. :\

I think it can be boiled down to "Upside down teardrop" (for the upper beak) with "upside down chevron" (for the lower beak).

I'll definitely scan the monster, once I figure out who / how.
