In the early 16th Century, "Geek" meant "village idiot."
In the early 20th Century, "Geek" meant "actor in a carnival side show."
In the late 20th Century,* "Geek" meant "a person mocked for their weird enthusiasms (as if they were an attraction in a carnival side show)."
In the early 21st Century, "Geek' meant "a person proud of their enthusiasm for esoteric fields, not caring if they are mocked."

This is why I love being in the company of geeks. Their enthusiasm is contagious, even when I don't share enthusiasm for their particular favorite thing. Here's a video of a mathematician who is a Klein Bottle geek. I bet you'll be grinning by the end of it. I bet you!

I am geeking out over this channel and the ones mentioned in the sidebar for "the periodic table" something or other-- I'd seen the one with the Coke dipped into liquid nitrogen, but couldn't recall enough to find the RIGHT hit, so I subscribed IMMEDIATELY.

THIS is how Dialecticdreamer plans to blow an evening while hubby goes out for two drinks and two hours of dancing at a very noisy local bar. We'll BOTH go to bed happy and worn out.

Brilliant! [subscribes] He reminds me so much of Doc Brown.

BTW I've knitted one of those Klein bottle hats. If you fancy one. I can knit you one. :-)

No probs; I just enjoy knitting! The repeated actions are very meditative and calming. I can also do a Moebius strip neckwarmer to match!

Here are the ones I made for a friend:

What sort of colours do you like? I can do pretty much anything from my yarn stash, including stripes if you like.

Also do you prefer wool or acrylic?

I'll see what I have! If I can find any, how about colour-changing yarns like these?

They're wool, but you get the idea; I've knitted them a lot and they come out beautifully. I could probably find something similar in acrylic.

OK, I have some acrylic in brown and cream tones, but I'm not sure how it will knit up. To get a better idea of what you like, here are two selections of acrylic yarns the right weight for the pattern (plain and colour-changing):

For your jewel or earth tones, I like Apple Orchard, Mountain Range, and Sand Dune.

Of this I like TUndra, Caribbean, Wooldland, and Tundra.

Or of course any plain colour if you prefer. Let me know one you like and I'll have a look at what I can find here. :-)

[Edit] I should add that the colour changes are gentle; the samples just show which ones you get. Here are examples.

Yes please, though I have to buy the yarn and make them yet!

And of course I'll buy more yarn for myself!

OK, I can't decide between these Tweed Stripes:
http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/tweedstripes.html
- Caribbean (Bold medium blue, purple, green, and navy)
- Tundra (Golden brown, chocolate, and espresso brown)
- Prism (Periwinkle blue, orange, magenta, and green)

Colour changes are gentle and they all look gorgeous in hats and scarves on Ravelry, the knitters' site.

I lean to Caribbean but those are my colours but Tundra is lovely and subtle, and Prism is jewel-like.

Help me, Obi Wan!

OK! THat's really pretty. Just to be sure, here are some photos of items made up in Prism.

Scarf:

(though in the Moebius one the colours go longways round your neck)

I think it will look great! [rubs hands and wonders what else to order...]
