(For those who think visually, each step is also written in captions, and I'm putting those same, word-for word instructions below the cut:

Step one: Clearly mark the center of your flag, and make a vertical line through it, so that the long side is divided in half (but you can still see the center); divide the short side into thirds.
Step two: Draw a diagonal line from the top left corner to the point half way across the length of the flag, and a third of the way from the top. This angle forms the basis of the zigzag motif Copy this line or make a physical template.
Step three: Draw a second line of the same angle and length in the middle of the flag, intersecting the center point.
Step four: Flip the line horizontally, and connect it to line you drew in step two so that it intersects the line you drew in step three. erase portions to the left of the intersection.
Step five: Draw your diagonal line in the bottom right corner of your flag, and connect it to the line in the middle by repeating what you did in step four.
You should now have a zigzag line connecting the upper left corner of your flag with the lower right corner. It should have three longer sections going down and to the right, connected by two shorter sections going down and to the left; copy this new line, or make a template
Step six: Draw that zigzag line again, shifted to the left by 10% the total length of your flag. This will be the center stripe of your flag.
Step seven: Repeat twice, shifting to the left by 10% each time, so that all angles remain parallel to your previous line, and the width is consistent.
Step eight: Go back to the center line and repeat twice more, shifting to the right by 10% each time, so that all angles remain parallel to your previous line, and the width is consistent.
Step nine: Widen black dividing bands between the stripes; add 10% the stripes’ width to each side of the zigzag lines you’ve drawn. The dividing bands should now be roughly one fourth as wide as the stripes.
Step ten: Color your flag.

Date: 2019-06-19 07:13 pm (UTC)As I was designing it, the first time 'round, I tried to figure out a design that I could make easily in MS Paint, with minimal math (and just using the rulers along the top and side of the work area to measure). Basically, I was winging it.
Then, I thought I should make directions, and see if I could follow them myself. :-) It was that last part that took the most refining.
