This one, I think, has a greater chance of being published. If it does get in though, I'll have to wait 6 months before writing again. By that time, the election will be long past, but this is what I think is the most important issue of our generation.

Dear Editor:

In her letter to the editor (published September 19), June Cheatwood of Norfolk compared the recent report of The Conference Board (September 17) to the exclamations of panicking cavemen. But climatologists have tested global warming theory for over a generation. While some scientists disagree about what's causing the current spike in CO2 levels, even the skeptics' computer models show: the more CO2 in the atmosphere, the warmer the Earth's climate.

Ms. Cheatwood called this problem "unsolvable." I don't accept that. We're the most powerful, and innovative, nation in the world. And working to reverse global warming benefits all of us. Environmental problems put a strain on everything: our economy, our schools, health system, and yes - even our national security. It is the key issue I'll be voting on this year, and I urge all readers to consider it carefully when they go to the polls in November.
