Been fiddling with my LJ
Feb. 1st, 2005 10:33 amBecause my mind doesn't feel like "Ann F. M's Journal."
In the middle ages, before literacy was common place, and people had postit notesand ipods, one very popular way of remembering things was "the mansion of memory" -- for everything you want to remember, from phone numbers, to names, faces, lines of poety, etc.. link each thing you want to remember to a wild visual image, and stick that thing into your imaginary mansion -- some things belong in the kitchen, some the dining room, some in the hall closet on the left, and so forth. There's a neat history of the idea, here: Brain Channels - Art of Memory.
Anyway, I just told you all that so that the sentence will not seem completely insane.
When I look around in my own mind, I don't see a mansion, but twisty paths through a forest. Some paths are wide, and sunny, and lead to open meadows where deer bed down for the night. But those paths get very thorny and and dark when I start poking around at the edges of my subconscious.
So -- I want this journal to reflect that, somehow. And unfortunately, some of my requested changes are not showing up... what was meant for an hour or two yesterday, turned into nearly the whole day.
And I'm wasting time, now. I need to go do laundry and have breakfast, etc.

To be fair, though, if you saw my real "mansion," you'd see that it isn't very logical or orderly, either... but it does have right-angles and square walls, and nothing in my brain is like that, so...
