Since writing my last LJ entry, I've learned that WHRO will also be showing "Are You Being Served?" reruns at 9 pm Friday... instead of the liberal news commentary/investigative program "Now" (Begun by Bill Moyers, now retired). Arrrgh! has the Radical Right stretched its tenticals so far?

Also, a new question about my computer popped into my head: I have the Windows 98 reboot disk; Would it be possible to reinstall only the "System Tools" programs, and leave everything else alone? Or if I run that disk, will I loose everything?

Still feeling topsy turvy...

I think that "Are You Being Served" brings them more viewers than a news program. More viewers means more possible donations when it's MegaBeg time. It's why a lot of stations don't show Doctor Who anymore.

Old Britcoms are cheaper and more attractive to viewers.
Thus, it's a cashcow for them as well.

Yeah, but Friday night has always been a bloc of news programs... the rest of Friday is still news, around AYBS; it's just that one half hour that has changed...

(and it's not more attractive to this viewer -- I like many britcoms... but not that one).

While that's kind of sad, there will be a plus side to this (for me) if they start picking up Butterflies. I'd *love* to see that one again. It's been some 20 years, I think.

That reminds me of the time I was all set to watch that wholesome family movie about the kid and his whale, only to find it replaced with..

As for 98, running the disk won't give you any troubles. I'm sorry to say it's been too long since I played with 98 installation for me to remember exactly what repair utilities are available on the disk, but it's worth a try. Everything has enough "Are you sure you want to do this? Really really sure? Final answer?" confirmations to allay fears of accidentally trashing anything.

Also, you may wish to make a 98 boot floppy and try starting up off that instead. The floppy will contain the diagnostic utuilities like scandisk, and some other goodies. More info on that here.
