capri0mniI forget the time of birth on my birth certificate, but if you allow 15 minutes fudge time, I'm within 24 hours of having survived a full 39 years on this planet.
...and number 39 has been quite a year.
This time last year, I was feeling alone and abandoned --
I'd worked all of 2001 on a designing and organizing a storytelling workshop... and even though all my friends said it was a great idea, and they'd be there... no one showed up after the 2nd of 13 sessions.
I did get lots of responses to an online personal I had up in 2001, but after a few exchanges, it turned out that every one of the guys responding were looking for a "discrete affair."
So on my birthday, 2002, I decided to make a clean slate of it and remove my personal altogether -- and aol wouldn't let me. So, I spent a good bit of time on my birthday, last year, screaming in frustration at the ISP, and thumping my forehead on the monitor.
2002 was a much better year -- I submitted 8 pieces of my work to 8 issues of a local magazine, and 4 were accepted for publication (maybe 5 -- won't know about the last piece I submitted until February). I wrote a memorial piece to my uncle, and posted on a public forum... and a total stranger thanked me for it, saying it helped her with the death of her mother. I made lots of new friends when I shifted the Hoedown from RADW to ADWC, and strengthened the bonds with old friends.
Still no romance sparked from the personal I still do have up, but I got something better: a strong sense of community -- of being loved and lovable. 180 from where I was 364 days ago. Let's hope there is no similiar turn around for 2003... Now that I'm going in the right direction, let's aim for full speed ahead!
