I wonder if someone at WVEC 13 (local tv station) read this open letter from Stephen Johnson (which
gordon_r_d recently linked to). Because on tonight's early evening news, they did an extensive report on how the local children's hospital is using video games to help manage severe pain in children.. They made the point that many of these games require complex thought and concentration, so you can forget your pain.
... But they finished by saying traditional, non-electronic games like Legos can do the same thing. And that given their druthers, the kids would rather be outside playing in the sunshine, instead of in a hospital bed (Well, duh! Hospitals suck). Couldn't help but think that this closing was to appease the more traditional parents who are convinced that video games are teh eval.
Still, it's a crack in the almost universal condemnation video games have been getting from The Establishment for the last 20 years or so...
