Date: 2006-01-09 03:05 pm (UTC)Well, as Sean Kane points out, in his book Wisdom of the Mythtellers (which is fabulous, btw -- all about the worldview of oral cultures, versus literary ones), the surface of water, whether it's the ocean or a mudpuddle, represents a membrane between this world and the Otherworld.
Seeing how frogs have evolved eyes that can see both above and below the water at the same time, it's no wonder that they've come to represent my muses.
