He's still in the E.R., because they don't have a bed available for him, upstairs, yet.

They're going to have to operate on his knee. But, in the meantime, they found a heart condition no one knew he had -- which, as he said, is "a puzzle" -- beating too fast, or something. I don't understand it, because he just went to see his G.P. a couple of weeks ago, and got a proctology exam last week, and came back from both with a clean bill of health; I would have thought they'd pick up on an irregular heartbeat. Doesn't every doctor have that stethoscope thingie? And don't they use it every time?

So, anyway, they're trying to treat his heart rate with drugs, now, and then, we hope, operate on his knee tomorrow. Then, as he said, he'll have to go into a nursing home, because there's no way he could get around that house on crutches. He talked about getting a neighbor to bring in the mail and put out water for the cat. ... I think he's underestimating the time it will take to heal. He'll be 79 on February 10, after all. This won't be like the knee injury he got in college...

But at least he's chipper. Just going by the tone in his voice, and not the words, you'd think he was planning a family picnic, or something.

Like I said in the last post: fingers crossed!

Thanks.... I'll send your message on when I next speak to him. :-) :-)

(Looks like we'll miss our AquariCorn combined birthday celebration, though...) Oh, well...

Like I said, at least he's chipper. And he's got free theater in the E.R., but they didn't give him any popcorn. Just lunch.

If they did a blood test on him, they may have found enzymes in his blood that indicated a heart condition undetected previously, or if they did an EKG, they may have found it.

Er, hi, I'm Autumn. I added you as a friend because we both went to the Poughkeepsie Day School, and you are interesting. :P

Hi! fellow P.D.Ser (one of the rare), and thank you for the compliment!

(And yes, this being a new admittance, I wouldn't be surprised if they did both blood tests and an ekg).

I've got my fingers crossed and sending lots of good karma for your dad. Maybe hearts are a little like cars; you may hear/see/feel something a bit off but the symptoms disappear when you get to the mechanic.

Computers do the same thing! I swear, they must be 4-year-olds in disguise....

I really can't be too worried about it, as long as he's so cheerful, though... it's just the background thought running in my head.

And that's what LJ is for...

I'm glad you heard from him and he's OK. Try not to worry too much! :)

Yeah. Me, too. Like I said before, the knee is really one of the periferals. Despite the heart puzzle that popped up, he really is in remarkable health.

And he has a large nest egg put away, so I don't think this will put us in the poor house, or anything -- but it will certainly put a dent in our finances (especially if the nursing home stay is longer than he's expecting).

Life just threw a curve, but that's what life does, so... you adjust.

Oh, I'm sure he will be, in the long run.

Right now, I'm wondering about the logistics. I mean, all my life, he's been the one helping me get around. Now, those roles might be reversed, at least temporarily. Life could get interesting if we both end up in wheelchairs for a while -- the lame helping the lamer (right now, I'm imagining the two of us as two daleks bumping around each other). At least I have experience, and can give advice, if nothing else.

Hee. Bach's litte fugue in G is on the radio, now. It's one of my favorites.

The positive attitude already puts him on track for a relatively speedy recovery. *hugs* to both of you. :)

Yeah. His attitude has always been fantastic. Although it was never in so many words, he's the one who taught me about pro-fun trolldom.
