Saturday six (Storytellers' edition)

Warnings: You have a life-long English/Literature student, here -- I love essay questions, and just because I'm asking these questions doesn't mean I've thought through all (or any) of the answers myself...
1) You are a hero on a quest. Are you:
a) hunting down a viscious monster that is terrorizing the people and kidnapping fair royal offspring?
b) off to seek fame and fortune?
c) seeking the Water of Life to save a dying family member or loved one?
d) just going on a quick jog to the market to buy a bit of better butter for your batter?
2) While on your quest, you meet an ugly dwarf at the crossroads, and instead of being repulsed or repulsive, you very politely stop and chat about your quest. In return, the dwarf gives you a boon -- an object that looks more ordinary than ordinary (i.e. something dug from a trash heap), but is really magical, and will change into something that will give you exactly what you need when you need it. Is it:
a) a loaf of stale bread (likely to become a feast, and/or quell the appitite of a man-eating beastie)
b) a pair of worn-out old boots with the laces missing (likely to become "Seven league boots" that will enable you to travel seven leagues [21 miles/33.6 km] in a single stride)
c) a rusty old sword (defeats entire armies, probably)
d) an out-of tune fiddle (makes everyone who hears it dance until you stop playing)
3) You get zapped into a storybook world. Is it:
a) The Hundred Acre Wood
b) Narnia
c) Wonderland
d) Never-never Land
e) Middle Earth
f) Oz
4) You somehow travel 100 years into the future, and observe (unseen and unheard) all the places you used to know. You are surprised to hear people talk about you as an influential figure in history. What are they saying?
5) If you were to dream up your ideal being/beastie, would it:
a) have wings
b) have gills
c) sparkle
d) have machine parts
e) be humaniod
f) breathe fire

Date: 2003-02-22 01:44 pm (UTC)2 - (a) if only because I recently saw a comedy sketch with Ben Kenobi and Darth Vader fighting with French loaves and i know a stale one could easily be used as a weapon of mass destruction :)
3 - (a) and not just because I've already done it in Kingdom Hearts :) Let's face it, it's got Pooh and Tigger and they're friendly and cuddly and fun. Just like me. :P
4 - "Who would have thought the world was saved by some big hairy bampot from Scotland with a bouncy castle and a team of ninja armadillos?"
5 - (i) be cuddly...

When I moved down here from New York State, my aunt (now deceased, sadly) gave me a home-made cuddly Pooh, and Kanga and Roo, that a friend from her Meeting (church) gave her for her children to play with... The children are all grown (with nearly grown children of their own), and so my Aunt Jean thought the trio should come live with me, because I'd decided that my house was a "Pooh House", and I've named it "Sanders", from the beginning of the first Pooh story:
"Once upon a time, a very long time ago, now, about last Friday, Winnie-the-Pooh lived by himself in the forest, under the name of Sanders."
But I don't have a sign that says "Sanders" in gold letters over my door... I should, shouldn't I?

Water of life. I can't help but wonder if monsters are justified and fame and fortune attracts popparazzi. But I'd do (almost) anything I could to help a loved one feel better. After they're cured, I'll pop down to the market for some butter for scones.
2) Which boon do you choose?
The bread. For one thing, you can't quest on an empty stomach, and if I conjure up a feast, I could invite friends to come to share it, and then we can overcome whatever lies ahead together.
3) Which storybook landscape do you get zapped into?
oooh, tough one. It's a toss-up, I'm afraid, between the Hundred Acre Wood, because it's the most real, and everyday and cozy, and Wonderland, because it's surreal and daft. (Sometimes, I feel like a nut, sometimes I don't!)
4) What are people saying about you 100 years hence?
That a child once read something I wrote and forgot about, and was inspired by it to found a new philosophy, or art movement, or political party or some such...
5) What is a characteristic of your ideal beastie?
Wings. But not little flutter wings... Eagle wings or stronger, maybe bat wings.
6) Of the choices given (I forgot to include "Bard"), I'm closest to the wizard.
