The Batmobile has lost its wheel...
Mar. 18th, 2006 04:23 pmI was toodling around this morning, getting ready to reply to various and sundry lj entries before breakfast, when, in the middle of my office the right main wheel fell off my chair!
I thought I needed something solid to brace myself against, so I somehow managed (don't ask me how -- sheer psychic mojo I suppose) to back the chair into the doorway, so I could use the door jamb for balance... By eyeballing it, I thought I'd have just enough space to wriggle past -- wrong! My hips were just an inch or two too wide. Luckily, I was (just) able to reach the lever that disengaged the left wheel from the drive shaft, and I was push the chair out of the doorway, crawl to my manual chair on the other side of the house, pull myself into it, and get into a more normal relationship with the world (4 1/2 hours later).
Oh, and as for the why: It looks like the wheel just skrews onto the axle like a bottle cap (makes it easier to change the tire), and with the wheel off, I could see a great mass of cat (and my) hair was all around that axle. It might have been working into the threads and caused the wheel to slip, gradually, until it fell with a clunk.
