Birthday...
Apr. 8th, 2006 02:56 pmToday is my mother's birthday. She would have been 72.
The first few years after she died, this time of year through me into a wierd, nostalgic depression, triggered by the colors yellow and green (Daffodils were her favorite flower). This year, I didn't even remember until I saw 8 April on the time tag of a forum message.
My mother joked that it always snowed on her birthday. I think I'll call Dad, now, and see if it's snowing...
[eta: It wasn't snowing at the time I called, but it had snowed earlier in the morning. There wasn't enough to stick to the ground, but there was snow on the blooming daffodils, just like Mother said there always would be.]

Date: 2006-04-09 01:43 am (UTC)i don't recall mom (or dad's) exact death day (yes, i read harry potter) - i know the general time. mom died end of january. dad died near samhain - i missed coven samhain that year, though i have no idea what i was doing on that samhain. no memory of it. maybe i was hanging w/ the cousins and they were telling me of their exciting Promise Keepers' convention. or something. :)
and while father's day doesn't bother me, mother's day does. it's all the hype. i really gets to me.
big hug honey. no matter how old we are, a part of us remembers and mourns our parents when they're gone.
my mom's favorite flower was purple iris - preferably the HUGE kind that you can grow yourself, but never see cut to purchase.
