Tonight is the final episode of Veronica Mars, season 2. It may or may not be renewed next season (a large part of the uncertainty is because VM's home network (UPN) is about to be merged with / swallowed up by a much bigger network (WB).
Personally, I think Veronica Mars would be the best match with the WB's current primetime lineup, but TV executive types and I don't seem to agree very often.
So tonight's may be the last Veronica Mars, ever. I am trying not to pput too much pressure on it to be excellent, so I can enjoy it without being disappointed.
[Edited to Add: Well, they'd better bring it back! They ended it on another cliff-hanger! Oh, and aparently the new network will be called "The CW". Does anyone have any clue what C & W are intended to stand for? When Dad read in this week's T.V. Guide that "CW was being murky about Veronica Mars renewal,", I thought it was a nickname for the C.E.O. or somesuch.... {{Thinks a minute}} waitaminute... I think I just read something online that UPN is actually owned by CBS (Columbia Broadcasting Service). So I bet CW is for Columbia/Warner. :::Nods:::]

Date: 2006-05-09 08:39 pm (UTC)If it does get picked up by the WB, that would be fantastic, because more people would probably get a chance to see it (I think UPN has such a strong reputation for cheaply-made shows that a lot of people don't even think about turning it on to see what's there -- which is their loss, sometimes).

Better to come up with an entirely new name, as when TNN changed it's name to "Spike!"
Hmmm... iirc, "UPN" was named after the merger between United Artists and Paramount Studios (and CBS bought Paramount). So it's probably an egoboo on CBS's part, to include the "C" in the call letters, so people are reminded of the real power behind UPN. But "Columbia" is an old-fashioned name for America (from Columbus) -- so old, that hardly anyone knows that, anymore. Instead, I bet they think of the corrupt banana-republic and cocaine dealers...
There're probably a lot of different reasons for picking the call letters they did, though -- like picking a combination that no one else has (or wanted, because it makes people's heads hurt).
Still, I think TV execs should hire more English Majors to help with decisions like this, and fewer lawyers. :::Nods:::
