Last night/early this morning, when she jumped up onto the counter to eat, I saw my cat Trixie's rear end, and it looked like she had sprouted a second anus O_o -- an open wound near her anus, on her rear right thigh; she has very carefully licked all the fur from around it. It doesn't look deep, or infected, and her behavior hasn't changed -- she's not acting like she's in pain, or depressed; she's not off her food... but still. I'll ask Audrey to look at it when she comes by tomorrow morning, if she can (Trixie has a way of sitting down, every time she senses me peeking back there), and see what she thinks about it.

Also, I just posted these thoughts to [livejournal.com profile] quakers, my first posting to that community (though I've been a member for a while).

One of my cats had a problem sorta like that, and it ended up basically being an impacted infection of the butt (not the proper veternary term, but whatever!). It sounds like your cat's problem might be closer to her thigh, so maybe it's something else. As I learned with my cats, they can't really tell you whats wrong with them, so I guess it's up to a good vet to decide what it might be. Hope she feels better!

P.S.- Good to see you on the Quakers list (I'm on there, too!)

Hee! I didn't know you were in that community. Good to know. We're such an endangered species. ;-)

And yeah, I probably should make a Vet appointment. Too bad they don't make house calls --that would make it so much easier!

Inflamed anal glands are quite common in cats and usually go away with cleaning and antibiotics. It sounds like that's what it is, anyway, so no worries.
