And I thought it would amuse several people on my f'list:

What makes Superman, so, well, super (a discussion about the physics behind his powers).

Also, last night, I saw a promo for the fall season of Masterpiece Theater. It's going to open with R. T. Davies' Casanova. I had a wee fangurl moment. ;-)

I don't know why I'm surprised at all the hype surrounding the new Superman movie, but I am. Silly me. I look forward to seeing it, but not half as much as I look forward to the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, or even X3, which I've already seen. And I love Superman. I watched the George Reeves show when I was a kid, I loved the first two Christopher Reeve movies, and I love Smallville. Lois & Clark, eh, not so much. I do understand his importance in the lexicon of American superheroes, being the first one and all. Maybe it's just that I really don't like Kevin Spacey all that much.

I'm not a big fan of Superman, among comic book heros; I prefer Spiderman.

I was just tickled that a physics professor would write a book on the physics of superheroes.

I think part of the hype over the movie comes from a sentimental feeling for Christopher Reeve, and recently, Dana Reeve. We miss them, still. And many of the positive pre-reviews comment on how much the new star looks like a young Christopher Reeve.

(And I liked Lois and Clark, actually. I think it was because it focused on the work of the newspaper, and took a humorous angle)

I like Spiderman, too. Any geeky kid can get to be a superhero. :)

Could be. Theirs is certainly a tragic story.

For some reason, I didn't watch it when it was on. Watching it recently on DVD, I found it painfully dated, and after watching Smallville, the effects were just cringe-worthy. It's amazing how quickly we get used to CGI.

(And a commercial for the new Superman just came on the TV. Synchronicity much?)

And I haven't watched L&C since it was cancelled. On the other hand, I'm a fan of '60's and '70's Doctor Who - cringe-worthy special effects are almost an asset! ;-)

Sychronicity? nah. Just a well-time media blitz...
