Been trying to write that song, based on that essay I reposted here, yesterday... Not getting very far with it, but it's got me thinking:

The neat thing about writing songs is: you can get away with a lot more sentimentality than you can in almost any other form of writing, barring love letters, and maybe greeting cards, without seeming completely Over-the-Top.

Oh, and I've been meaning to do this for a while, but keep forgetting:

Welcome to my F'List, [livejournal.com profile] brassfire and [livejournal.com profile] heronheart. I know [livejournal.com profile] brassfire from the Mudcat Discussion Forum (the site is down, now; Bah! and Boo!); [livejournal.com profile] heronheart just showed up in my info page as someone who had friended me the other day. I looked at his userinfo, and he seemed like a reasonably sane fellow, who seems interesting, so I friended him back.

I'm always curious, though, when strangers friend me: how'd you find my LJ? was it through reading a friends flist page, or did you do a search of interests? huh? Tell Me!!

Deck the Halls
You are 'Deck the Halls'! Let's be honest, it
isn't Christmas you are celebrating, is it? In
fact, you know full well that there were no
shepherds in the fields in December, and that
the date of Christmas was put at midwinter
specifically to coincide with the older
celebrations of Yule and the birth of Mithras.
An unashamed Pagan, you take great glee in the
number of carols referring to holly, evergreens
and Winter's end, and will sing them with
gusto. You know where they really came from.
And you do enjoy the seasonal celebrations,
regardless of their name... A merry Yule to
you!

What Christmas Carol are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

As [livejournal.com profile] trinalin herself said: Yes! Finally a Quiz that has me pegged! But the maker got the wrong carol (Well, I did give the answer that I took the test to see if I knew more carols than the quizmaker). I'm The Holly and the Ivy All the Way! Well, okay... either that or The Apple Tree Wassail (Bah! can't find a tune for it!) -- after all, if any living things appreciate the goodness and hope of the Winter Solstice, then surely it must be those Green People, who live by photosynthesis... Besides, I'm not like that miserable boy in The Giving Tree! When I eat a sweet apple, I give thanks for it!
