Been trying to write that song, based on that essay I reposted here, yesterday... Not getting very far with it, but it's got me thinking:

The neat thing about writing songs is: you can get away with a lot more sentimentality than you can in almost any other form of writing, barring love letters, and maybe greeting cards, without seeming completely Over-the-Top.

Oh, and I've been meaning to do this for a while, but keep forgetting:

Welcome to my F'List, [livejournal.com profile] brassfire and [livejournal.com profile] heronheart. I know [livejournal.com profile] brassfire from the Mudcat Discussion Forum (the site is down, now; Bah! and Boo!); [livejournal.com profile] heronheart just showed up in my info page as someone who had friended me the other day. I looked at his userinfo, and he seemed like a reasonably sane fellow, who seems interesting, so I friended him back.

I'm always curious, though, when strangers friend me: how'd you find my LJ? was it through reading a friends flist page, or did you do a search of interests? huh? Tell Me!!

I sometimes (while trying to eat with a cat on my lap) play the game of LiveJournal surfing in which I just sort of randomly click on whatever link looks interesting. I think it happened that I was reading Mrs [livejournal.com profile] squigglebog's journal, checked her interests, clicked on Jim Henson, scrolled down, randomly clicked on your user name and read your "*Art Garden* report". I thought to myself "what a refreshingly thoughtful person", read a few more entries and friended you.

Hey, Ken! Sorry I didn't see this reply until now... wonder why. Oh, well, I'm here, now.

While I'm pleased and flattered that you see me as "refreshingly thoughtful," what really imppresses me is that you can eat, web-surf, and lap entertain a cat all at once!

Wow. Of course, I'm assuming that you were not eating a) anything too liquid-y, or b) anything with tuna...

"Thoughtful" , by which I mean self-reflective as well as intelligent is no small thing. It's a quality very few people seem to have.

what really imppresses me is that you can eat, web-surf, and lap entertain a cat all at once!

The cats aren't impressed. They feel that I would be much more efficient if I gave up the eating and web-surfing!
