I watched "The Tonight Show w/Jay Leno" on Friday last week, and again, this last Monday. And both times he made jokes about the whole "'Merry Christmas' vs. 'Happy Hollidays'" debate discussion thing. And both times, he was taking Bill O'Reilly's side.

And get this: his schtick was that the only reason people said "Happy Hollidays" was because of "political correctness."

Now, I know that Jay Leno knows that there are Jewish people in the country, too (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on the wide range of Pagan religions), and I seriously doubt that he's a secret Neo-Nazi, or that he honestly believes that America should be Christian-only.

But I suspect he's telling these jokes because he figures that a large part of his audience actually likes O'Reilly.

If you ask me, I'd say that's the definition of "political correctness."

Well, mostly:

I worked on that Irish Proverb Song! And I think it's done, or nearly.

Here it is:

Sweetest Morsels

Oh, the king's table groans 'neath the weight of the feast,
With the venison, pheasant and boar.
But the pride of the cook, and the gem of the meal
Is the fine and the rare peppercorn!

A toast to the berry, so sweet on the vine,
and the carrots we pull in the spring!
To hot roasted chestnuts on cold winter nights
And the moments that make our hearts sing!

Oh, the pages of history tell of great wars
And the capers of powerful men.
But the things we remember are often as small,
As the song of the sweet Jenny Wren

A toast to the berry, so sweet on the vine,
and the carrots we pull in the spring!
To hot roasted chestnuts on cold winter nights
And the moments that make our hearts sing!

Leave the tales of the war and the struggle and strife
To the pens of the squinty eyed scribes.
For the music and laughter, and sweet stolen kiss
Are the moments that season our lives!

A toast to the berry, so sweet on the vine,
and the carrots we pull in the spring!
To hot roasted chestnuts on cold winter nights
And the moments that make our hearts sing!

(and a note to Dad: now that you have a new 'puter, you probably have the right software installed for the Tune-o-Tron to work... may take awhile, but try it!)

I made nearly all the changes based on advice in a discussion thread, here: 'Irish Proverb' song by CapriUni. I'm including the link because I think the folks at Mudcat are wonderful, and I wanted to give credit where credit is due.

And now: A poll!

[Poll #635209]

[ETA: And does anyone else out there find it annoying that you have to answer your own poll before you can see the results right there on your lj page?]
