Last night (early this morning), I was watching a repeat of the latest Mystery! episode, and noticed the name "David Troughton" in the credits. I didn't recognize anyone as having a family resemblance to the Second Doctor, so I did a quick check on the Mystery! website, later. Yes, it turns out that the David Troughton who played the sidekick detective is the son of Patrick Troughton, and he is also one of the chief actors in the Royal Shakespeare Company...
And in the preface to the First Folio of 1623, there is a list of
The Names of the Pricipall Actors
in all thefe plays
Among them, given 20th billing out of 26, is one William Ecclestone.
I just think that's kind of neat.
It almost calls for a fanfic, especially since the Fourth Doctor claimed to have acted as scrivner for Shakespeare, when he was writing Hamlet (City of Death).
