I took my glasses off before I went to bed, like a normal human. And now, I cannot, for the life of me, remember where I'd put them.

When they weren't on my bedside table, I thought: I must have taken them off when I turned off my computer.

When they weren't beside my computer keyboard, I thought I must have taken them off in the kitchen, when I went there to turn out the light.

When they weren't on the kitchen table, or by the microwave, I thought: Did I watch TV before toddling off, and forget?

And so on.

They're fairly weak, prescription-wise, and some days I can almost forget that I need them. But reading small print on people's journals is just a bit of a strain. I'm discovering that cupping my hands around the sides of my face seems to help, for some reason (I wonder if it's the same principle as cuping your hand behind your ear to help you hear). But I can't type like that...

They're around here somewhere. They have to be.... Unless some alien or bogle stole them while I slept.

I also forgot to buy benedryl-clone when I went shopping on Thursday, and as the drug is draining out of my system, I'm starting to feel my allergies a bit more.

Oh well. I can have Audrey pick some up for me tomorrow.

[ETA: Found 'em! They were on the table behind the TV, instead of in front of it (must have taken them off when I turned out the living room light) Now, I just have to clean them *facepalm*]

I'm tired of giving LJ money; so, come February 11th, I'll go back to having 6 icons, instead of 71. Therefore, I decided today that my "default icon" should, in fact, be a broad umbrella -- capable of conveying myself in as wide a variety of moods as possible.

So here's a portrait I drew of myself while sitting in front of the bathroom mirror last August. After I finished the "objective," outside version of myself in pencil (as objective as one can be, while mirror-gazing), I went over it with water color pencils and a wet paintbrush to overlay colors that represented all the different facets of me that exist on the inside.

And "looking closely at myself, and trying to convey what I see to the world" is basically what my journal is for, after all, so. There you go.

...

I just wish there were a way to mass-download all my art from my LJ picture gallery back to my computer, rather than doing it one-by-one. Which will be tedius in the extreme.

Today, before I even got out of bed, and had breakfast, I learned about:

Tyromancy: Divination from Cheese!

Apparently, in the Middle Ages, people would write possible answers to questions on pieces of cheese, and the piece that got moldy (or the piece that got nibbled by a caged mouse) first was the piece on which the correct answer was written.

...And the thought occurred to me: if this were a controlled experiment (i.e.: all the pieces of cheese were from the same wheel, and the same knife was used to carve the answers onto each one), it could be surmised that the hypothesis being tested was:

"The Truth has an important nutrional value that can be recognized and reacted to by non-human species."

...I'm not saying it's a well designed experiment, or that its underlying suppositions are valid. But really, when you look closely at "old superstitions," what you really see are applied and systematic methods for understanding a complex world. And really -- that's Science.

Okay. I'm done spamming you for the day.

[ETA: I heard this on: The Splendid Table from American Public Media, it came during the last segment of the show: the trivia question of the week]
