Squinting at the world, just a tiny bit.
Jan. 16th, 2011 03:47 pmI took my glasses off before I went to bed, like a normal human. And now, I cannot, for the life of me, remember where I'd put them.
When they weren't on my bedside table, I thought: I must have taken them off when I turned off my computer.
When they weren't beside my computer keyboard, I thought I must have taken them off in the kitchen, when I went there to turn out the light.
When they weren't on the kitchen table, or by the microwave, I thought: Did I watch TV before toddling off, and forget?
And so on.
They're fairly weak, prescription-wise, and some days I can almost forget that I need them. But reading small print on people's journals is just a bit of a strain. I'm discovering that cupping my hands around the sides of my face seems to help, for some reason (I wonder if it's the same principle as cuping your hand behind your ear to help you hear). But I can't type like that...
They're around here somewhere. They have to be.... Unless some alien or bogle stole them while I slept.
I also forgot to buy benedryl-clone when I went shopping on Thursday, and as the drug is draining out of my system, I'm starting to feel my allergies a bit more.
Oh well. I can have Audrey pick some up for me tomorrow.
[ETA: Found 'em! They were on the table behind the TV, instead of in front of it (must have taken them off when I turned out the living room light) Now, I just have to clean them *facepalm*]

Date: 2011-01-16 09:48 pm (UTC)Or, if you live in a temperate forest in summertime, someone for tick-picking duty after a walk in the woods.
(and people say I'm unromantic!)
One thing I miss, not having any close living family, or any housemates, is that I'm missing a witness to my life -- someone to say: "I know you had your glasses on when ____, have you checked this place?"
When there's only one brain I can rely on, my life is a lot less reliable.
Unfortunately, writing a personals ad (which is basically the only venue I have for meeting people, right now) and saying: "I need someone to help me find my glasses and missing spoons." is considered bad form... :-(

Date: 2011-01-17 02:47 am (UTC)The wife in that couple is my best friend from university, and we both worked in the campus observatory with a professor who would say things like "We need to get a new cable for the thingummy" or "Can you get me a different whatsit from the cabinet?" and we'd always know what he meant.

Date: 2011-01-17 05:17 am (UTC)It's not the same as cupping your ears to hear better, because that's partly about blocking extraneous sound but also partly about redirecting and amplifying sound waves (like an ear trumpet). Your hands aren't doing that to the light from the computer screen.
