This is one piece, but there are two sides to it -- closed:

and open:

I plead poor planning, a late start, frustration with media (Crayola crayons aren't as I remember them; you have to fight with a lot of colors to get anything out of them, and the greens are downright insipid!), and a heavy dose of laziness after my third attempt to get it right.

If I'd had greater confidence in the life expectancy of my color ink cartridge, and my ability to perfectly allign the two sides of a printed piece of paper, I would have done 50%-75% of this on the computer.

I'm only 37% happy with the results, but still 99.7% happy with the concept...

A bit, yes. Perhaps descended from a common ancestor. But I think these critters I found are a bit shaggier than Orguss apears to be... ;-)

Trivia: "Orguss" is a vehicle in that anime. The animal is most likely a Jabberwock. His name is "Jabby" and the females pictured are called "Mome" and "Mimsy" :-)

Ah... well then, my beasties do share a common anscestor.... I was half thinking Lewis Carroll, and half Dr. Seuss....
