And some actual, real life news to go with this one: when I came into the great room, this morning, I saw my cats showing an unusual amount of interest in my back porch.

After a bit of looking out the window, I saw, that sure enough, there was a mockingbird stuck in my back porch. How he got in, as the screen porch door was firmly latched, I don't know, but I suspect a hole in the screen some where that I can't see(anyone who says that only humans go through adolescence has clearly never met a bird "teenager"). Getting that latched screen door open and not letting the cats either catch the bird or get out into the yard, themselves, took some doing, but thank the gods and the domestic pet industry for yummy, smelly, food with gravy in a can.

After I got the doors sorted, I came in and drew this through the window, to practice drawing quickly, from life:

Wasn't quick enough to draw him with absolute accuracy (I'm assuming it's a him -- it's the kind of predicament a teen boy would get himself into), but I'm pleased enough, considering out of practice I am.

He's still out there; If I could guide him toward the door with a feather duster or broom, I would. But he'll just have to discover the open door for himself (fingers crossed). At least screening isn't as dangerous as glass, to fly into...

Also, I think I broked my scanner. It only picks up the color red, when scanning, and the final image has these purple and yellow stripes running through it, that I can't get rid of... hmmm.

We have huge glass windows around three sides of our living room and we leave them uncleaned in baby bird season which usually stops the youngsters flying into them but this year the light must be catching one of them differently because of the weather or the way the walnut tree's grown or something and, although there haven't been any fatalities, there've been about half a dozen birds who've temporarily stunned themselves by flying into one particular pane of glass so that I have to watch over them until they wake up and fly away again. /run on sentence :-)

I hope your mockingbird found his way out eventually.

yes, he did. Though now that I think about it, it might have been a teenage robin. still a teenager, though, clearly.
