So I'm loving this shiny new everything, but -- the resolution is so high that the fonts on LJ are now teensy-tiny (I had my lj customized to show Garamond at 14pt size, but it looked more like 2pt). I know I can set IE to show me the font bigger, but I didn't really want to run both IE and aol at the same time, especially since it only my LJ that I was having trouble reading ("Only LJ" she says -- huh!). So I went back and changed my settings to 36pt (Now, it looks like a normal 10).
So -- tell me: did it look tiny to all of you, too? Or did it always look normal, and now it looks giant?
If it's the latter, I'll change it back, and go ahead and use IE...
ETA: Oh, and about restocking my software for this thing: my aide tells me that Google has a new word processing program out there, that's supposedly comparible to Microsoft's? Do any of you guys know about that?

Date: 2006-09-04 11:03 pm (UTC)Among about a zillion other advantages over IE, it allows you to immediately increase or decrease the font size with CTRL+ or CTRL-, even on sites that when viewed in IE set font sizes in stone and defy all attempts at scaling.

Date: 2006-09-05 01:35 am (UTC)I don't know what it was like before, because I always read your journal off my friends list. Right now, it's appearing as 10pt Garamond in IE, and my default font in Netscape.
I've just had a look at your source code, and it says:
Which is broken in at least two different ways, and Netscape is quite right to be ignoring it.
What it should say is something like:

Date: 2006-09-05 12:36 pm (UTC)There is a very competent alternative to Microsoft's Suite of products called Open Office. It's freely downloadable from www.openoffice.org (although, beware, it's a BIG download).
There's also something called Abiword, which I've never tried, but generally gets favourable mentions from other geek types. I believe it's smaller and lighter than OpenOffice. http://www.abisource.com/

Date: 2006-09-06 04:50 pm (UTC)Now, I'm just debating whether I want OpenOffice (which I assume has all the program applications of MicrosoftOffice) or Abiword (which I assume is just the word processor, which is what I'll be using 99.99999% of the time).
Now, does anyone have suggestions for a desktop publishing program? One came preloaded on my old Gateway, but I forget the name.. Home...something, I think. Another of the microsoft clan.
