The Arranged-marriage Meme

(Just for the record: I'm opposed to bartering brides [& husbands], but just for the sake of this thought-experiment: this is for introducing your true self to a stranger, where you actually care if they know and apreiciate your deep self -- not the just the shiny surface you show the general public)

Your family has set up an arranged marriage for you.* Your new spouse will be arriving by airplane in a couple months. For the sake of propriety, torrid love letters and long-distance phone calls are out, but you're allowed to ship a package to introduce yourself, and the kind of person you are, including:

1. One book of non-fiction


2. One book of fiction


3. One song


4. One TV show (sample on tape or dvd)


5. One movie

What do ship off?

you know this topic in and of itself is interesting. I know people who've had arranged marriages. I'm curious (cause your meme is very interesting!) who do you think your folks would pick out. type / etc. ?

Well, if it were up solely to Dad, he would probably not want me to get married at all; the way he talks, he seems to believe that everyone should be single for life, but that may just be because he wants to protect me from heartbreak.

If Mom were deciding, she'd probably pick someone who's politically liberal, religiously agnostic, and who has skill sets were different, yet complimentary to my own, so that we could go out and work at changing the world as a team. Don't know who, exactly, but it probably would have been someone she would have met doing volunteer work...
