Well, the Yule carol I wrote is still getting support, and some are even lobbying for it to have its own website (Yay! This may be the start of my taking-over-the-world-with- joyfulness campaign!).

In any case, in discussing the melody, I came to the conclusion that my inspiration came from a combination of "Joy to the World", and birdsong. To illustrate this point, I went surfing for .wav files of bird song.... Didn't find any of that, but I did find this list of mnemonic phrases for identifying birdsong (What we [mostly English-speaking] humans think we hear when we hear birdsong):

Some of what we come up with is quite amusing, such as what a Warbling Vireo says (to the catapillar he's hunting, or so some humans say):

One of the lovliest birdsongs I've ever heard is the summer song of the Hermit Thrush, as it echoes through the trees as dusk is falling. The author of this webpage offers the following 'translation':

But I'd never heard that. To me it sounded like the ringing of bells, full of echoes, in a downward, spiralling scale... I haven't heard it in years, as I have moved far south out of its range, and when I go home to visit, it is always in the season when the bird is silent. That song, and lilacs in bloom are what I miss most about the place where I grew up.

Too bad you can't post more than one mood at a time, because right now, I am feeling nostalgic and...
