indefatigable42 and I were talking about children's songs in #kazooband, yesterday. And she was trying to remember a song about Nellie Bly (no, not the one by Stephen Foster) -- the pen name of Elizabeth Cochrane. One of my favorite all-time uppity women, she became an undercover journalist in 1885, at the age of 18, because she got pissed off at a man who wrote an article saying girls were only fit for cooking and cleaning.
As a kid, she was nicknamed "Pinky" because she insisted on wearing bright colors, instead of proper and sensible beige and grey, so I
had to make that caption that color.
Here's a brief bio of her, and the source for my icon pic.
