capri0mniWell, I missed my self-imposed second deadline of Midnight to finish the rough draft. Probably won't finish by midnight tonight, either...
But I'm getting closer, and the end is in sight, and I'm beginning to look back and be able to see the whole thing as a coherent entity (there are some scenes I need to add, and many to trim, cut entirely, and rearrange, but I'm seeing the whole, and on the whole, I think it's pretty good).
But I'm also realizing I'm walking a tightrope in ths story (and balance was never my strongest point). So I'm asking my f'list, kindly, to provide a net (in the form of feedback) while I revise.
There are two points from which my tightrope is strung:
So: here are descriptions of the key, plot-driven, points of high emotion in the story and how the character(s) most affected in the scene react (or how I'm contemplating having them react). Please answer on a scale of 1 to 9. 1 is "OMG! is your character a borg?!" 9 is: "Excuse me, before I gag on all this shmaltz..." 5 is spot-on.

- A desire to explore the emotional complexity lurking under the surface in fairy tales to which the usual "The prince was charming" and "The princess was kind" don't even approach.
- A dark fear and dread that I'm being emotionally manipulative.
